Star Running & Fitness is proud to be the official Training Partner for the race.
Hello, and a very warm welcome. My name is Katherine Sargeant of Six Star Running and Fitness, and I’m delighted to be appointed as Training Partner for the Wokingham Half Marathon 2020, which (I’m sure you know!) recently received the outstanding accolade of best half marathon in the south of England, in the “Let’s Do This challenge awards”. How fabulous is that?!
I’m privileged to have the opportunity of providing coaching, support, guidance and encouragement to the runners of the 2020 race, throughout 12 weeks of training and into race day. It really is an honour. I’m delighted to be associated with such a fantastic race which embraces the very best of professional, but local, running experiences. Essentially, I will be providing coaching and guidance to first-timers to the Half Marathon distance, as well as determined, committed improvers and those building towards marathons.
You will be able to download a 12 week First Timer or Improver Wokingham Half Marathon training plan at the outset, and thereafter track essential advice on a weekly basis as the 12 weeks tick by through to race day.
The weekly updates will include guidance on nutrition, hydration/fuel, coping with the ups and downs of our winter training, rest and recovery, strength and conditioning, injury prevention and much more, including the strategy to taper and approach race day with confidence. Additionally, aside from the information available via this race web page, I provide locally coached training sessions which give those new and improving runners the confidence to build endurance, speed and running form ahead of race day.
So, here goes, a little background on me and my running. I am an England Athletics qualified Coach in Running Fitness, as well as a qualified Personal Trainer. More importantly, I think, is having experienced the hard work and preparation to race all Six of the World Marathon Majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York).
Running in these far-flung places is amazing. But all of these achievements have only been possible by conquering pre-race nerves, running long runs, speed work, hill sessions, easy runs and lots of races, including the Wokingham Half, right here at home. For me, the Wokingham Half is a key race in the calendar. It’s races such as the Wokingham Half which have enabled me to achieve Championship qualifying times for the London Marathon too.
Happily, I now combine my experience of racing with my experience of coaching – fun, inclusive and supportive! Please stay tuned, and look out for the 12 week programmes which will be available well ahead of our official training kick-off on 1 December. I look forward to sharing the coming months, and race day success, with you!
